In the Eyes of Dragonflies is a short film written and directed by Carlo Pellegrini for the London Film School and the Royal College of Music.
We worked together from the beginning, gathering inspiration to tell a story we both needed to discuss.
ITEOD explores the relationship between a father and his daughter, his unconditional love for her, and his work as an entomologist. It is filled with memories from the past when he used to passionately explain and share stories with his little girl. Then, the responsibilities of a daughter who loves her father but can no longer take care of him as he has advanced-stage dementia.
Allan is like the dragonfly, trapped within the glass walls of his own mind.
I have worked closely with Carlo to help him find a way to address this theme, to write the script and to design the overall project's art direction. I have done the production design, learned how to pin the butterflies as a professional entomologist, and found the other props. Moreover, I took care of the styling using the actors' clothes. I also contributed to the screenplay, casting, production and AD.
The project was filmed using the Aaton XTR 16mm and Kodak 500T film.
A key point of the brief was to create all the audio using Foley, which I produced in the studio with the director.
